www.eTRaXC.com

As a high school Xc/T&F coach myself for 20+ years, I can't tell you how many different ways I have used over the years to log
what training my athletes were doing (especially during the off-season).
Needless to say, it was alot of work involving much cutting & pasting between Excel® & Word® documents and alot of
emails. In my mind there had to be an easier way.
Luckily for me, Bob Schneider, a former college runner & hs coach himself, had the same thought and a creative solution - an
online Training Log Service called CCLog (which has since progressed to
eTRaXC.com).
After sampling CCLog through the website's Guest Logon, I was convinced of it's value as a training tool and purchased a subscription
for my high school XC and T&F teams. The rest as they say is history. If you haven't found a reliable tool for tracking you or
your team's training, I would encourage you to try eTRaXC.com as our
guest.
The following is a brief interview with eTRaXC developer Bob Schneider.
Question:
For those people who don't know, give them a brief overview of your online Training Log known as eTRaXC.com.
Bob Schneider:
The first thing I would say is that it is really much more than a "training log" now although that is how it started. The
thing that still sets it apart from almost everything else on the web is that it is a "team-based" site that is monitored
and directed by the team's coach. It is clearly the most versatile and comprehensive team-based system out there, and one
of the only ones I have ever seen.
eTRaXC is a site that is designed to facilitate the management of fitness-related teams from youth through adult. It was
originally designed for high school cross-country running (hence the original name CCLog) but has evolved to be able to
accommodate a much wider range of users.
It was originally designed to address the "off-season" problem (ie: holding kids accountable for their off-season training)
but now facilitates in-season team management as well. You can take attendance, manage forms/fees, schedules, meet sheets,
results, etc. The list literally goes on and on...
Question:
As a high school XC/T&F coach myself, my team has used eTRaXC for over a year and I absolutely love it (especially the daily
notification email I recieve that lists which athletes have posted to their logs). What other positive feedback do you get
from other coaches?
BS: It seems like everyone has some things that they like more than others. It would be very difficult to nail down
just a couple of them. The neat thing about it is that it is very versatile. We are more than willing to add what
utilities we can at the request of the coaches that use the site. The "Sleep Log", for instance, was added at the request
of a coach and has been very well received.
To answer your question though, I would guess that the thing that has been the biggest pleasant surprise is the value of
being able to have team members communicate with the coaches and each other via the group email utility and the team-level
forums. That has had the surprising benefit of maintaining the cameraderie amongst the teams developed during the season
and school year through the off-season.
Question:
You have a long list of testimonials ranging from high school coaches to college coaches. Can you give us an idea of how
many teams use eTRaXC.com for tracking their training?
BS: Right now we have roughly 145 teams using the site. During the summer we see roughly 5,000-8,000 page hits per
day and during the school year it is around 2,000. Most of this is the result of "word-of-mouth" advertising. Since I am
a high school teacher/coach by trade, I have no marketing capability. I do this as a labor of love. Now that I can't
run anymore and am not currently coaching, this is a way to stay involved in the sport. It has undergone a very steady growth in terms of teams using it as well as how regularly members of those teams access
the site.
